Reel Seats
Working on two new light line glass rods, a 3wt and a 4wt. Here are the reel seats, partially done, both are uplocking. I will make small fighting butts for them, too. Pics of the finished rods are coming up soon.

Grip for Steffen 8' 6/7wt
In the works...Steffen 8' 6'7wt. Completed Ritz grip with NOS Struble U-22 reel seat and matching fighting butt. Reel seat insert is a phenolic fiberglass tubing.

Color-Coded Saltwater Reel Seats
I'm getting ready to start some serious saltwater fly rod builds, each specifically designed for the particular purpose. As you can see, the reel seats will be color-coded. My preference for the salt will always be a Fuji seat, even though many fly anglers despise the looks of it. These modern versions have anodized barrels and ultra-slim machined, color-coded inserts. However, the locking nuts are classic Fuji, and that is what makes the difference! You just can't beat the Fuji holding power, light weight, the cushion effect on your expensive saltwater reel seat feet, and the corrosion resistance. They "mold" around your reel feet, and protect them better than any full-metal seat. I also like the very modern, yet the utilitarian look!

"Antiquary Edition" Unstructured Fiberglass 835-4 (#4/5)
This is my latest build which rounds up the original Unstructured Fiberglass batch of blanks, made to my specifications. Out of the three tapers I offered in the past, this is my favorite taper to fish - a true allaround trout rod, which feels light and crisp with a 4wt line. If you like deeper, semi-para feel, you can use a 5wt line on it.
The "Antiquary Edition" features hand stripped, polished and patinated brass reel seat (NOS US made), a German agate guide oxidized to match the seat, blued Snake Brand guides, Powell-style grip (flor 1/4" rings), and caramel YLI silk guide wraps with subdued details. A custom made rod sock and aluminum rod tube are included. The rod is available for sale.

So what is heavier? Vintage all brass seat vs contemporary cap and ring nickel silver seat with wooden spacer (I used a Ray Lee stock seat as an example.)

I have just completed a build on one of the blanks from the 2015 batch, which I put away for personal use (I realized I had an extra blank.) The rod has a fishtail grip with a slender nose, home-made, oil finished orange micarta reel seat insert, blued Garrison-style hardware and guides, rust guide wraps, and clear ferrule wraps with single black trim at the cork check. The custom rod sock is made (as always) by my better half.
I tried taking pictures under changing light... The rod is available for sale (just scroll below or click on Available Rods button on the top.)

Work in Progress
It is hard to maintain the rod building momentum during the summer, while the fishing season is at its peak. This rod is drying in between coats. I will be fishing the Driftless area in a few days and I am looking forward to it!

Unstructured Glass Fly Rod #0614 - The Euro Edition
I just completed this rod for a friend in Europe. It features Powell grip, split skeleton micarta/cork reel seat with oxidized hardware, caramel silk wraps with single turn red inlays, and bronze Snake Brand guides with matching stripper.
